Many years ago, our teachers offered to instruct us to achieve medals and compete at the amateur level. This would have meant focusing on choreography, technique, and styling that would not often work well on a social dance floor. We needed to reflect on why we started dancing and what we hoped to attain for ourselves and our students.
Although we have knowledge of, and received training in the techniques and international rules of dance and strict time music, we decided that our own personal expression in social dance was our strength. Our experience has demonstrated to us that the vast majority of people wanting instruction did not want to compete or achieve medals. This experience helped us to make the decision that was best for us. We wanted to enjoy our experience, look good and be comfortable dancing our steps to all kinds of music, on all types of floors, whether crowded or open. We just wanted to HAVE FUN! For us, the answer was clear and we elected to focus on social dancing.
If your focus is on achieving medals or competing though, we can introduce you to top Canadian professional teachers, from Windsor to Toronto, who can assist you in achieving your goals. We are more than willing to discuss this with you and point you in the proper direction at no charge. After all, that’s what your dance experience is all about isn’t it? What you want to achieve, not what your teachers want for you.
